El Cajon Hires New Assistant City Manager

Graham Mitchell, Assistant City ManagerThe City of El Cajon is very pleased to announce that Mr. Graham Mitchell, current City Manager for the City of Escondido and longtime City Manager for the City of Lemon Grove, has accepted an offer to become the City of El Cajon’s next Assistant City Manager.  He will replace Majed Al-Ghafry, who was recently appointed Assistant City Manager for the City of Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Mitchell is well known in the East County given his many successful years in Lemon Grove and is one of the most highly regarded and respected local government leaders in the San Diego area.

El Cajon City Manager Douglas Williford stated, “I feel that we are quite fortunate to have him join our team.  I could ask for no one better to fill this important position and I am sure that our City Council, our staff, and the entire El Cajon community will all enjoy working with him.” 

Mr. Mitchell is expected to be deeply involved in many of the City’s highest priority projects and programs, including the renovation and re-opening of the East County Performing Arts Center and the upcoming construction of the new Animal Shelter.

“To say I am ecstatic to work for the City of El Cajon would be an understatement.  I am excited to be part of the El Cajon management team, focused on meeting City Council priorities and enhancing the quality of life in the community,” Mr. Mitchell stated.

Mitchell, 47, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from Brigham Young University and earned a Master in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.  He will start work with the City on Monday, March 13 and will be paid a salary of $210,454.
